Would you like a closer and more harmonious relationship with your 3 - 7 year old? Register for our 8-week  course, "Proactive Parenting Course: Preschoolers & Kindergartners" today. Are your children under 3? This class can give you an excellent head start in getting ready for your child's preschool & kindergarten years.

This course is taught by Todd Sarner, MA MFT, Director of Transformative Parenting.

Here are some of the topics we'll cover in this workshop:

  • How to help your child deal with separation problems (including problems with sleep)
  • What form of "discipline" is appropriate for this age group (attachment-safe & developmentally friendly)
  • How to make sure your children get the rest and play that they need in a sometimes overwhelming culture
  • How to understand and transform aggression in your child (biting, hitting, kicking, tantrums, etc)
  • Why a young child wants to say "NO" all the time (and how to get them to work with you)
  • How rituals and compassionate limit setting can help avoid parental burnout (and make your child feel safe at the same time)
  • Why separation based discipline (like Time Outs and 1-2-3 Magic) can actually backfire.
  • How structure and ritual can help you and your child (including avoiding power struggles and getting some "down" time)
  • Why it's critically important to let children have their tears (and how tears actually assist in your childs' development)
  • How to handle the problems that can occur between siblings (including multiples)
  • The importance of providing more contact & closeness to your child than they ask for (before they ask for it)
  • How to tune in to your child's own specific needs and sensitivities (not parenting with a "one-size-fits-all" approach
  • And much more.

How the Course Developed

This course started when Todd was an Intern of leading developmental psychologist Dr. Gordon Neufeld ("Hold On to Your Kids"). Todd was one of Dr. Neufeld's first interns and is a former Faculty Member of the Neufeld Institute. The course was originally based on a workshop taught by Dr. Neufeld which was expanded into a 6-session course. After teaching the material for several years, Todd began to incorporate ideas from other sources, as well as incorporating things he had learned from hundreds of hours of working with parents and children. The new course, expanded to eight weeks, also includes new exercises designed to help parents integrate their learning from the course and to be able to better manage their own reactions to their child's behavior.

The course will be held on Thursday evenings from 6:30-8pm for eight weeks starting Thursday, September 22, 2011. The class will be held at OFS Mill Valley.

Tuition

Tuition for this 8-week course is $150 per individual or $200 per couple. (if you want to alternate attendance- one parenting partner attending at a time- you can choose the individual option). Some financial assistance is available, speak to Amy Baker for details.
